SR 9 Road Widening Project in Alpharetta, GA
Public Informational Meeting: November 16, 2017
Fulton County property owners who may be impacted by the SR 9 Road Widening Project from Windward Parkway to Forsyth County Line can learn about the eminent domain process and landowner rights at a public informational seminar on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Alpharetta, GA.
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) proposes to widen State Route (SR) 9 from Windward Parkway to Forsyth County Line to a continuous four lane urban roadway with a raised median. This project includes reconfiguration of sideroads, pedestrian improvements, and signal upgrades. The intent of this project is to alleviate traffic congestion. It is expected that private property will need to be acquired to complete the roadway widening project.
Krause & Kinsman attorney David Needham will debrief landowners at this educational workshop. David will focus his discussion on the importance of private property rights and how impacted property owners may be allegeable for additional compensation from the GDOT.
Some topics that will be covered in the workshop include:
- What is eminent domain?
- Can I stop the taking of my property?
- Do I have to accept GDOT’s offer for my land?
- Should I assume the offer for my property is fair?
- How will the value of my property be calculated?
- Can I negotiate on my own?
- How will the taking impact my business?
- Why should I consult with an eminent domain lawyer?
